JimmyD Bedrock of the Community Canada 21634 Posts	Posted 04/30/2019 09:57 am Instead of asking how the coin got damaged, ask yourself how it is possible for this to happen during the striking of the coin at the mint. What you have there is impossible to happen at that time., so it is PMD, no matter how it happened. Report this Post to the Staff
OoJasonoO New Member Australia 15 Posts	Posted 04/30/2019 10:18 am If I had to guess I would say that 2 coins went into the press and the coin I have wasnt centered and obverse was struck on the blank side, that created the indent, and then it got pressed again and that's why the 69 and lettering is readable and that's why to reverse is so messed up, either that or some kind of platchet error, I admit I am still learning and even if its PMD its all part of understanding different kinds of errors Cheers jimmyd Report this Post to the Staff

OoJasonoO New Member Australia 15 Posts	Posted 05/01/2019 05:01 am Thank you all for your replies, 2nd coin I totally agree is PMD, just posted it because I thought it looked cool and I thought maybe it might have been created by a mint roll machine. As for the 1st coin on the obverse side please enlighten me how a coin is indented PMD without destroying the font, maybe the reverse is PMD. If people think it's PMD could you please explain what you base your assumption on, so many posts I've read on this site where people say it's PMD and it turns out legit and rarely have I seen anyone asking questions about the post Report this Post to the Staff
ryurazu Pillar of the Community Australia 1333 Posts	Posted 05/02/2019 02:07 am as it is very fuzzy picture (first coin) I only say that it cause by a Post mint damage more than likely something that cause large amount of selective pressure clamp/trial metal or something of a wedge, as five cents is a very cheap pieces of very available piece of metal. As for the second coin is also very likely to be a PMD I reckon soldering iron was the cause but cant be certain due to the picture. I work in the metal industry, majority of my work is assembly but I also design and fabricate. This is a trolley for lifting I designed and created Not trying to bignote, just showing that I'm not full of it. I know it has nothing to do with coins but it shows I have a basic understanding about metal, I've only been collecting for a year or so, I'm collecting 5 cent pieces first and I almost have all varieties(majority unc) and I have been trying to get and understand error coins. OoJasonoO New Member Australia 15 Posts	Posted 05/03/2019 04:50 am The second coin the metal is folded over the front, it still has lines on the side, I thought maybe it might have been created from a metal lathe, drill or some spinning device, but wouldn't the lines on the side be gone, that's why I thought it might be a bottle cap that got folded over from a mint roll machine.
