I have been coin hunting with my middle child (she's 9) for a couple of years now, and we just have been filling in a couple of old folders.
I just got us a nice Dansco Book for cents, and as we try to put the best one in, ( we have no idea how to grade or know if it's been cleaned, and as far as we know no clubs or stores in our town to ask) but we have gotten some books and learning on our own. We have this 1923 Wheat that has a funny "2" and not sure what it is. Any help would be great.

To CCF Just a Dad! Excellent finds! To answer your question, the reason why the "2" in the date looks weird, is because it has taken a well placed hit, causing the metal to get pushed over and flattened. That's from Post Strike Damage ( PSD), and it's not an error. Still a great find of course!

Well there is a DDO that year:

But I don't see the same hub doubling on it that you coin is showing with the enlargement of the devices with coin circulation.

While searching for the image that I created earlier, I discovered something new that I didn't know about cents for this year:

Out of the 9 listed on PCGS, one in each grade had the lathe lines on them. Another interesting thing to look for on this years coins?
