All of the dark lines on both sides appear to be a cracked die. They are all raised. It is either that, or a retained struck thru. I have never seen cracks to this extent on one side, let alone both sides if that is the case.

Definately not staining. I thought so at first, but they are all raised. I will try to get better pics, but my tech is pretty low and I hate the image optimizer

Looks like pencil marks on the coin staining the surface. (Closer images would be a better help)

A die crack is incuse on the die, leaving a raised line on the coins.

I'm still seeing nothing above the fields or the devices/design. Still looking like pencil marks on the coin. Surface level marks.

I'm about to head home now. I will put it under a microscope and try to get a better representation of what I am seeing. Agreed, from the pics they look like pencil marks, but all of the black lines are definitely raised on the coin.

It's not a cracked die. It's more like a small loose knot of steel wool on both sides. That was retained. I tried my best to get some closeups. What is not still there and raised has left an indention into the cent itself.

Soak it in acetone,(from the last pix posted) looks like some kind of glue residue.

Note the areas where it has already peeled. This image helps us a lot more. Glue on the coin.
