Picked this up for $92.50. Looks like the Sheldon 277 1-A die pairing with the reverse broken and sunken die. First star in obverse is faint and ST in reverse is weak where the die is failing. Thoughts on grade and problems? Thanks!

I'm not an expert on these but I do have one. the die break does appear to be S-277 variety, however, the front of the headband is flat and not raised which is another indicator. star 1 is too obvious for a later die state obverse. my guess would be S-277 early die state but I think the later die states with the star missing is more desirable

I think you got decent coin at a pretty good price there. these are really tough to find without too many planchet issues

Thanks. The coin had been stored in a small 2x2 paper envelope. As a result it had some paper shavings, Wiped it lightly with a fine microfiber cloth and put it away for storage.
