This is the last of several nice Roman bronzes I recently came across and purchased on ebay. It is a high grade Fausta, the wife of Constantine the Great (who had her executed), SPES REIPVBLICAE AE-3 from the Rome mint. The mint mark is "R wreath P".

It has a variant obverse legend of FL MAX FA - VSTA AVG and is attributed as RIC, Vol. VII, #294, struck in 326 AD. It is listed as "Rarity 4" in RIC.

It's a high-grade piece with full details on Fausta's hair and is quite well struck. The one interesting thing is the second S in SPES. You can see it under magnification, but it's either a strange, lousy one-letter strike, or there may have been an issue with the S on the reverse die.

Very Nice pick up. I'm a little jealous.

The pearl necklace and Fausta's wavy hair are excellently detailed in your coin. Even on a poor example (my $1 buy from last year) her wavy hair comes shining through. (This coin does have one redeeming feature, an interesting mint mark - Trier - PTR crescent with dot.)
