right side up

@c92, evidently when you hold your phone in the vertical position to take the pics, they come out sideways here on CCF. Try holding your phone horizontally.

It is a Maria Theresia thaler and one of the many restrikes of this coin. From the details I would say it is either a London, Birmingham, Bombay, or Calcutta restrike, made sometime 1936-61.

These coins are not that rare but a bit more than silver value (833/1000 silver). 50 USD perhaps, with every reservation that you may get both more or less if selling it.

austrokiwi is the expert on these!

If it was in a Salzburger Bank flip, I'd be more inclined to think that it was minted in Vienna, as it's likely the coin would have been sold over the counter by a branch of this bank in Austria for a small premium over the bullion value. My parents got me a 1780 restrike Thaler from a high street bank in Austria for my birthday on a summer holiday in 1970. In the 1990s you could still often see them displayed in Austrian banks.

The tail feather arrangement looks like 1-2-1 to me, which points to the London etc mints. But I have to admit the picture is a bit blurry, so I could be wrong. If it is 1-3-1, yes then most likely a Vienna strike.

I agree a restrike. He is an excellent site that will help identify all the types of this series. http://www.theresia.name/en/index.html
