I was given a mountain of pictures of random coins in this guy's collection he got from his dad and inside there was this coin. I had to obviously sit here and zoom in and severely crop pictures. I don't want to tip my hat off about the coin nor do I want to get his hopes up as the entire collection would probably need to be bought to do a deal.
Very limiting but from what you can see does it look "right"?
There were 3 reverses used on the 71cc and the mint mark appears correct for one of the dies. The last 1 in the date has a strange base, The wear appears normal. If I was going to make a deal to buy this rare coin, it would be contingent on being graded genuine by TPG.
I'd still like to start with large, full-size pics of each side that show the true color of this coin. We need to determine if this is genuine and then a grade as well.
I agree with better pictures needed but what I can see it matches either WB-1 or WB-3 die marriage. There is actually 5 different reverses for the 1871 CC half dollar and a total of 7 different die marriages. I would agree that it does look authentic but better pictures to confirm.
