Just a circulation damaged coin. The improperly annealed coin look burned in color and it doesn't wear off the coin. This one looks like it spent some time in a casino.

What coop said .
But a good trick (at least for me) is the reeding of the coin, the color will be uniformly discolored on reeding as well as obverse and reverse.
And I'm a huge fan of sintered coins.

@coop.... coincidentally enough, the majority of my silver coin hoard came from the casinos. Back in the day (2+ decades ago) when they still had coin slot machines to play, I would always listen for the PING of the silver landing into the tray. Unfortunately most casinos nowadays only have printed tickets to redeem for cash (that's if you win), which is not as much fun for coin hunting. ;)

@CoinMom and E&V, thanks for the replies.

Coin rejector, I've had mild success hunting the ticket redemption machines, not silver quarters or dimes yet but older nickels and pennies.

It's not like it used to be at all though..sigh.

@Big-Kingdom, definitely is not like it used to be. The last time I cashed out winnings at a casino, I noticed a $1 star note in the stack of bills & a '63 LMC I'd say in AU condition in the change.
