"The Great Sinner" is a 1949 film set around 1860 at the Wiesbaden casino in Germany.

Gregory Peck meets Ava Gardner and she introduces him to gambling.

At one point he puts two coins on the roulette table:

The coin showing is a Germany Prussia Vereinsthaler of King Friedrich Wilhelm IV minted 1857 to 1861.

Another scene with a vereinsthaler obverse and three coin reverses:

The coin reverses shown are not the reverses of vereinsthalers but are reverses of German States post 1871 unification 3 mark coins.

Good screencap!

Yesterday I was watching a rerun of Angela Lansbury's 'Murder She Wrote' and there was a scene set in (a rather unconvincing) London. A typical Cockney low-life character was seen handing over an envelope of money to a loan shark - inside could clearly be seen £50 notes with the portrait of Christopher Wren (introduced in 1981) alongside Britannia reverse £1 notes (withdrawn in 1960). Obviously the Hollywood Studio had only a limited selection of British currency!
