1933 Aus Penny. Is there something wrong with the second 3 in the date? To me it looks slightly different to the first one, I can't imagine it's meant to be different to the first one?
Or have I just been looking at coins for far too many hours today?!#129321;

I don't know how Australia produced their dies so I can only guess.
In the US die were often produced design element by design element which is why there are varieties caused by the relative placement of the varying design elements.
One part would be the date.
The date would be created as a whole (all 4 numbers one one punch).
Thus the person who created the punch didn't quite cut the two 3's exactly the same.

Remember, this is ONLY a guess.

The '3's are obviously a bit different, but that is OK, part of the process in making a working die.
Nevertheless, kanga is basically right.
It is interesting to note that all four digits are different in the two pictures. That suggests that each digit was individually cut.

I don't know if anyone has studied 1933 penny date varieties too closely but I think the master dies at least were produced from 193_ tools, so a different last digit isn't out of the question.
