I've had this nickel for years and I'm still stumped. Has anyone seen one like this?

Not sure on what it is but it looks like it continues around the left side up to the top.

To me it looks like a 1912-D with a damaged mint mark

And it isn't fake, I just can't get a decent pic to get small enough. I'm new here and am still learning the ropes. I called a guy out last week on ebay for fakes. I've exhausted that option.
