Hey my name is Jason and I'm relatively new at collecting coins and I need help to see if this indention around the top of this penny is an error or something that happened in circulation? Thanks!!
Is a worn die strike pretty common, is it worth hanging on to or should I throw it back in the penny jar? (Lol) Thank everyone for taking the time to answer my question!
to CCF. Thanks for posting the picture. We do like pictures here, the more the better. The area you described is called " Ridge Ring". The following site describes it at the bottom of the page. http://www.error-ref.com/design-dev...ng-die-wear/
It's called Die Deterioration, caused by a worn die issue, from striking a ton of planchets at the U.S. Mint. It's a very common issue for that year. No added value.
