Standard international shipping just cost me $5.00 from the UK for $200 worth of coins receieved in 16 days and not with hidden costs to pay ebay fees. I have in the past paid for international shipping at $10.00 and never Not received a tracking number even though the listing also said Standard International Shipping.

Quote: The basis of the issue is that the buyer "was expecting some sort of expidited shipping"
Yet the listing clearly stated
"Standard International Flat Rate Postage" I agree. It appears to be a misunderstanding on the part of the buyer.

I bought a few coins on ebay from Albania. Was charged over 4x actual postage cost. I got the coins, I knew my total cost beforehand. Positive feedback. End of story.

@Jadey No, that's not quite it. I expected 'shipping cost' justification for the charge, not to be told that part of what I paid for shipping was to go to pay the seller's ebay & Paypal fees when I asked why I paid $10.00 and the stamp says $3.00. That is the crux of my argument and when called out on it, the seller would not refund the difference between the true shipping cost and what I paid. He still had $2.00 to cover his valuable time of 2 minutes which works out to $60/hour. People here as well as the seller are missing the whole point. Maybe there are more sellers who practice this that I know of since this is the first I've heard of it in 10 years. I guess I never would have thought. Besides, every coin that has been shipped to me in the past, the cost was 100% justified shipping costs whether it be standard or with tracking, not used to cover the seller's fees. He even admits that putting the fees into the coin price would make the listing less attractive. So this was clearly a purposeful action on the sellers part as much as it was a misunderstanding and a bad assumption on my part.

Would anyone buy from a listing that said 'Shipping $10 but here is the breakdown of what I charge in my shipping costs: ($3.00 postage + $5.00 handling fees + $2.00 for MY ebay Seller Fees)' ? This was just a marketing/listing strategy of the seller that in my opinion is less than honest. I never thought it would come to this, most sellers are reasonable and actually get back from the post office and issue a small refund when the the shipping cost is under the projected cost. I never expect those refunds (because it is what I agreed to pay if that's Truly what it costs). I NEVER AGREED TO COVER THE SELLER,S ebay FEES when I accepted the $10 shipping charge!! Yet somehow, I am getting flack for bringing it to the seller's attention as well as ebay's. What a world we live in...lol

I once purchased a poker chip set for game night, 99 cents with $56 shipping, was still cheaper than the same set at $59.99 buy it now with free shipping. The break down of costs is semantics.

If the Buyer had read and understood the T&C of the Seller BEFORE buying the item he would have been better off. The Buyer tried to change the rules, not the Seller. Read and understand everything before you agree and sign on to something. It's not rocket science. Business 101.
Trying to change the rules after the game started does not work. It's not supposed to.
Good chance the Buyer is gonna find himself on a few more BBL's because of this little stunt.

@loonielewy You do realize that seller fees increase with the sale amount. ebay takes what...10% Try that one in your listing on a $5000 dollar item. The reason buyers accept extra auction fees is because they're disclosed before hand and an amount is stipulated, not hidden and then explained to you afterwards.

@westernsky - This was not a stunt, I could care less about the money. It was all about non-disclosure in case I haven't made that clear enough. In 10 years, this is the only seller who told me the shipping fees were for ebay's fees. I contacted him reasonably and asked him to explain. He could also have easily removed his fees that the buyer is not expecting to pay and then change his future listing or send a message as he has only NOW thinking of doing. As I said, this thread is all about shooting the messenger, nothing more.

If I had have come to this forum before going to the seller and asked what people would do in my case with what I discovered about paying for HIS seller fees being hidden within the ship charge, there would have been mixed opinions & comments and I'm sure some telling me to message the buyer rectify the situation or simply not to buy from him again. They would also note the seller and maybe hesitate or at least inquire if they ever decided to buy from him. I didn't think to do that but the seller didn't hesitate to start this thread. The seller has turned the tables and is playing the victim when he is responsible 100% for his listings, including disclosure and to SHIP with justified & reasonable costs. I guess not everyone respects & follows ebay's guidlines & rules and has no problem with people breaking them. If those potential sellers put me on a block list, so be it, I'll spend my hard-earned money elsewhere.

@TaeKenDo I can understand you wanting some justification for the shipping cost, but that has to happen before the purchase IMO. Once you have agreed to the terms of the sale, and the terms of the sale are fulfilled, there are really no grounds for formal complaint. I recently bought a used Cherry Pickers Guide off ebay, and the seller charged something ridiculous like $15 for shipping. I remember being perturbed by that, because I knew it would only cost about $5 to ship. I complained to myself plenty that I did not like the practice, but I don't feel I had any grounds for an official complaint. The bottom line was that the seller was offering the best price + shipping that I could find.

You do realize the more you defend yourself, the guiltier you make yourself out to be. Your boiling your blood over 10 bucks. 10 bucks shipping from Australia! Seems more than reasonable, no matter how the seller wants to break it down. My last 2 envelopes from just the US were both higher than 10.00. On a lighter note.....I got an envelope of advice here................Shipping is 10 bucks though. .

@Jadey Thanks for some comprehension. But unlike you, I didn't know hw much the Actual shipping cost was until I received the package. Nor that some of the shipping cost was helping the buyer maintain his business which is Not shipping or handling. I am patient and graceful and would have accepted even a couple of dollars or a credit (although probably would never have used it), simply as an acknowledgement from the seller. What I got was blame & accusations, and now slander. You can check my feedback I leave for sellers, even when the coins I receive are sub-par compared to the photos. I suck it up and never leave Neg FB. This guy's attitude and resistence just hit me the wrong way and I reacted. But after all this, no regrets whatsoever with the FB. Hope it stays and he changes his practices. I hope all sellers here think and learn they are not above the buyer but because the hide behind a disclaimer. As I said, and you can fault me for that, this was not an issue of money, it was principal. He had more than one chance to make things fair for both of us, he chose not to and then justify himself by attacking my integrity publically when my reputation as a buyer speaks for itself and is untarnished.
Almost no one can say they have never had an issue with a buyer or seller. The opportunity was given to rectify and he chose not to even budge an inch. I will in the future not take any sellers, their listings or their selling tactics for granted because just as you think you've seen it all, another one surprises you. Enjoy the thread.
