If I had have come to this forum before going to the seller and asked what people would do in my case with what I discovered about paying for HIS seller fees being hidden within the ship charge, there would have been mixed opinions & comments and I'm sure some telling me to message the buyer rectify the situation or simply not to buy from him again. They would also note the seller and maybe hesitate or at least inquire if they ever decided to buy from him. I didn't think to do that but the seller didn't hesitate to start this thread. The seller has turned the tables and is playing the victim when he is responsible 100% for his listings, including disclosure and to SHIP with justified & reasonable costs. I guess not everyone respects & follows ebay's guidlines & rules and has no problem with people breaking them. If those potential sellers put me on a block list, so be it, I'll spend my hard-earned money elsewhere.

@TaeKenDo I can understand you wanting some justification for the shipping cost, but that has to happen before the purchase IMO. Once you have agreed to the terms of the sale, and the terms of the sale are fulfilled, there are really no grounds for formal complaint. I recently bought a used Cherry Pickers Guide off ebay, and the seller charged something ridiculous like $15 for shipping. I remember being perturbed by that, because I knew it would only cost about $5 to ship. I complained to myself plenty that I did not like the practice, but I don't feel I had any grounds for an official complaint. The bottom line was that the seller was offering the best price + shipping that I could find.

You do realize the more you defend yourself, the guiltier you make yourself out to be. Your boiling your blood over 10 bucks. 10 bucks shipping from Australia! Seems more than reasonable, no matter how the seller wants to break it down. My last 2 envelopes from just the US were both higher than 10.00. On a lighter note.....I got an envelope of advice here................Shipping is 10 bucks though. .

@Jadey Thanks for some comprehension. But unlike you, I didn't know hw much the Actual shipping cost was until I received the package. Nor that some of the shipping cost was helping the buyer maintain his business which is Not shipping or handling. I am patient and graceful and would have accepted even a couple of dollars or a credit (although probably would never have used it), simply as an acknowledgement from the seller. What I got was blame & accusations, and now slander. You can check my feedback I leave for sellers, even when the coins I receive are sub-par compared to the photos. I suck it up and never leave Neg FB. This guy's attitude and resistence just hit me the wrong way and I reacted. But after all this, no regrets whatsoever with the FB. Hope it stays and he changes his practices. I hope all sellers here think and learn they are not above the buyer but because the hide behind a disclaimer. As I said, and you can fault me for that, this was not an issue of money, it was principal. He had more than one chance to make things fair for both of us, he chose not to and then justify himself by attacking my integrity publically when my reputation as a buyer speaks for itself and is untarnished.
Almost no one can say they have never had an issue with a buyer or seller. The opportunity was given to rectify and he chose not to even budge an inch. I will in the future not take any sellers, their listings or their selling tactics for granted because just as you think you've seen it all, another one surprises you. Enjoy the thread.

@loonielewy - from what I've read, in your opinion I was guilty of extortion from the get-go so can't improve much on that.

Nobody is "slandering" you. You bought an item, then threatened to give negative feedback if you didn't receive a partial refund on shipping costs. This is a textbook case of feedback extortion on ebay, of which you are guilty. Prove me wrong in a single concise post and I'll apologize.

@llewellin - As I have said 20 times before, I could care less about the money. The only thing I wanted to rectify was the unjust charge for ebay fees. That entailed money obviously but I would have accepted an apology and acceptance of responsibility for attempting to get the buyer to pay his business fees. I don't know how much plainer I can say it. I'm starting to think you want to force me into your little pre-conceived narrative of what happened. Well, that ain't going to happen. I stand behing the principle I explained over & over. If you believe ths was not my true motive and I needed $5.00, then I can't help your brain to understand that logic.

TKD... Does not matter what the actual shipping cost was nor what the Seller built into his S&H charges. You saw the costs and agreed to it BEFORE you hit the "buy" button. It's business. Don't like the T&C then don't hit the "Buy" button. You cannot win this argument no matter how you try to spin it. Move on and buy where you have not been blocked.

I purchased a new car last year they had $4000 "rebate", so the price I paid was $4000 less than the list price, yet amazingly I had to pay state tax on the full price. So I paid tax on $4000 that I did not spend. Regardless, I wanted the car and paid the total price plus taxes. I could argue all day with the tax office that it is an unfair fee, but the fact that I agreed to it and purchased the car doesn't mean I can threaten to extort the state after the fact.
Frankly, there is no viable counter argument because the facts are indisputable. Buyers get to decide whether the sellers price is reasonable BEFORE they buy. To attempt to dictate what they feel they "should" be after the fact and threaten to leave bad feedback is feedback extortion and reprehensible.

I have bought quite a few things over the years on ebay and have never thought that the shipping amount was negotiable. When bidding on an item, I always take the auction price combined with the shipping price as my total. The ad seems pretty clear in what he was offering for the $10. Honestly, that's not a lot in my eyes to ship a coin internationally. I understand that you are upset that the seller said that the extra is to cover his ebay fees but in my mind, that is part of what you would expect for shipping and handling. If there were only $8.50 in stamps on the package, would you be chasing him for the buck and a half under the same principle? A few years ago, my son wanted a puzzle with heavy equipment on it for Christmas so I searched ebay. There was one in Australia luckily. The puzzle was $8.00 but they wanted $22.00 to ship it to Canada. I thought that was ironic but didn't take up a crusade to see the accounting for the $22.00. I accepted that I was buying a $30 puzzle and that was that.

Knowing when to say when is an art. Running on and on does not normally help. ie......... Quote: I was guilty of extortion from the get-go We have a confession! Your own words, manipulated yes, but you said them. I hope you get the point. You have let this get the better of you, and shouldn't have. All for a deal YOU signed up for. Life is to short for this malarchy.
