I have begun to hate this series, there is so much discussion about it. And when I bid in any European auction if I see these in the lot I stay away as they just are such a challenge. But when you buy estates you have no choice. You get the mans collection and these can be in there. So does anyone have any issue with this coin? 15.5 mm, 2.23 grams. These are important coins and people do want / need them for collections. But they were just so heavily faked in modern times you just have to check like 4 times to be sure.

Just a comment from a typical US collector. I've always admired roman coinage for its' robust design and character. I like the styles and how far the devices are from the fields. I also like variations in thickness in some of them. Tells 2 thousands years of history

Here is the famous Barry Murphy chart of some of the known fakes I believe which is very helpful.

The class of fakes identified my Mr. Murphy all have the spiky hair obverse with the wreath made of large blobs. On the reverse of the fakes, the letters AIEΩN are always directly behind the nymph.

I don't see any immediate red flags, but like you said, fakes of these are scary common and scary good. From my experience, I think its mostly the ones with the "crazy hair" that are more suspect.

Here's a tetrobol I purchased about 10 years ago.

About 15 mm, weighs 2.21 grams.

I don't know if it is real or not.
