Hi all,
I'm still not confident enough in my ability to grade large cents so I'd like to run this by all of you.

It's an 1821 and I just got it in the mail. It is slabbed by ANACS but I know that doesn't mean much, I just mention it to explain that my pics are taken through a slab. When I look at the coin at an angle, I see a sheen on the surface of the coin that I don't really understand (old cleaning maybe?). This is the last pic, taken at an angle with a light on it. Thoughts on the condition are most appreciated.

Thanks you two! I agree with your VG10 and feel good that neither you flagged as having any problems. ANACS slabbed it as F-15! But I got it for, no surprise, VG10 money. Looking through all active and sold listings on ebay, I do find this one as more attractive than the other VG10s, so I'm more happy with the purchase at this point. :)

I like this coin alot. The reason why I like this coin is the 2 in "1821" is made with a swirl. It looks medivalish in a way.

I agree with VG10, and may I add that finding a '21 like this one with nice, smooth surfaces is not an easy task.

GERMANICVS - seriously! The grade isn't the best but this one is still attractive. I checked out hundreds of 1821 large cents and found maybe 5% that were problem-free, and half of those were otherwise unattractive for various reasons.

robbudo, that is what I meant - nice, smooth planchets with even colour, like your example, are the exception (in my experience) with this date.
