This is from my father-in-law's estate. My husband brought me all the coins he found in his dad's dresser. They were all in jars. He used to run a gas station, so he had a lot of different people passing through. There's a bunch of silver quarters and Kennedy's I have yet to take pics of. Anyway.. this one and one other caught my eye simply for the colors. Let me know what you think! thanks!

Yeah, it looks like somebody really went after this and the Buff with a wire brush. The coloration on both is interesting--does it look as coppery as the pics suggest? Perhaps somebody tried to plate them (crudely), and then "shined" them up? I won't guess a grade here since I know little about 3CN.

There's more blue in them that the camera didn't quite pick up, but yes there is a lot of the coppery & purple colors. I wonder if there was something on them and he just scrubbed 'em up to get it off. Thanks, biokemist.. do you know of any good grade guides for these?

I grade it crap. Sorry. It has absolute minimal value and a grade is meaningless. If you ignore that it has very little numismatic premium...it's a F12.

It kinda looks like someone went after it with a stick of dynamite.

Wow.. I think I got the first official grade of "crap". And I can't even find that on my grading scale. Ah well.. seriously, thanks for the comments. I'd still like to know where it got all the colors, but it's pretty moot. Time for an acetone bath and experiments!

The symbol is CR-0, I believe.

Quote: The symbol is CR-0 xshift I apologize in advance for my humor. But my goodness, let's be accurate here! CR-0 Coin was stored in sulfuric acid, then properly dried off with Flourine gas. Slab contains a few random atoms which might be a coin. This grade is best suited for collectors who possess a scanning electron microscope. CR-0.25 Coin went through "surface restoration" as target in particle collider. There may be holes (and isotopes) present. Best stored in a lead container. CR-0.5 Coin was embedded in semi-truck tire and driven across the country, rotated with tire and made the return trip. It may or not be round. Caution: sharp edges may be present! CR-0.75 Coin subjected to sticks, stones, and non-nuclear military ordnance. Something might still be legible, but it may require Google Translate to identify the series, or possibly decryption software. CR-0.9 CR "Choice" Coin victim of chemical or electrical experiment, then subjected to "light cleaning" with various industrial tools. This is a CR "PQ" coin--few qualify, and they stand by their own merits. Xshift, if yours is CR, it certainly is a PQ, "Choice" example. All in fun of course!

Well, in time, we might need some mid-grades like CR-0.83 etc. But anyway, thanks for the explanation!

Kurt!! I like the grading scale. I think we need to keep it around. Propose it to the board mods. This should be for those coins that truly deserve it.
