The apps in general are good, just finding one that you like the most, but they aren't true magnifiers or microscopes, it works based off the camera zoom.
I've tried more than a couple and you'll find some get really blurry or won't stabilize at close range and keep zooming in and out trying to focus.
It's not a good replacement for a USB microscope that will allow you to magnify how you like, but the magnifying apps, once you settle on one, will get you by in a pinch.
I think the most you'll get out of them is about 10x which is good for a closer look, but there are situations where you'd want a 30x
I have android and I have one that works well enough but I like it having a screenshot function in the app so it's a one button picture instead of holding the power and the home keep at the same time to take a screenshot. Still a USB microscope gets you where ever you want to do and a better choice. But I don't have a computer... trapped in the 80s!
