Hi All,
Maybe a strange question. Yesterday I was at the local casino, when I stuck my ticket in, in the change back I got a 2019 AMP P quarter. the way the machine works is they load it, and it pays out the ticket, it doesn't take in change at all.
Ok so, I'm speculating that they loaded some rolls of 2019 American Memorial Park quarters in there, and possibly some will have the W mintmark.
Now, is something like this frowned upon for hunting? Like go to a slot machine that takes a penny bet, bet 1 cent and then cash it out and cash the ticket for .99 cents?
The tellers still have older rolls, 2019 Lowell, and some 2018, but their rolls are always new unless I get some of their in house rerolls. but I think they fill the machine with newer coin and more frequently than they do the cashier stations.
I'm going to do it anyways, just curious if you think it's not really coin roll hunting, I put it in the "coinstar" or vending machine category, and why not? Heck, I've considered testing the laundromat change machines to see what's in them. LOL.
cool or uncool to do this type of thing?
One thing I will say, the cashiers at the casino are tire of me asking for a couple rolls of quarters "so I have money to do my laundry left in my pocket" LOL

I've read here of people doing similar things with machines to get coin back.

I feed the machines @ the carwash, as long as they
are spitting out new dollars. I've received several
really nice SACs this way. I'm really not a fan of the
pres. series.

It's certainly creative; gotta hand you that. What's the strangest or most original way that anyone has looked for rare or non-circulating coins? Raiding the poor box or wishing wells?

I've searched and replaced in the "need a penny, take a penny" trays at convenience stores. lol that about as low as I'm willing to go though, I don't hit up Unicef or March of Dimes or the Ronald McDonald House  |

There is a quarter machine in the US mint in Denver. You put in a dollar and you get 4 MS quarters. It is there for that express purpose. So I think it's all good!

I've done this at some Holiday Inn's with their pop machines when I was bored. I don't see an issue!

Well, about $10 in change from the machine, I stopped in on the way home from work since it's on the way. Nothing really of interest this time around, but I think it has potential. I did get a whole bunch of scratched up 2019P nickels, so there's that I guess.

When my local USPS office stamp machine was giving out SBAs, I may have bought a few a penny stamps with a $20 bill or two.  can't claim I was hunting , more along the lines of hoarding but hey!! Edited by ericalynn13

It's your time spent,spend it however you feel it would be productive. This the the reverse of the casino trip,in the past people would bring in bags of coins for the machines,now your the only one leaving with a bag/pockets full of coins.. |

Possibly emptying a vending machine of change could impact sales  Casinos continually refill their ticket redemption machines  |

When I arrive at LAX or Miami airports on trips to the USA, I put a $20 bill in a transit ticket machine to buy a ride downtown, and I get lots of $1 coins in change!

I have done this before. There are a couple casinos in downtown Las Vegas that would still take coins and I would use a $100 bill, spin the wheels and cash out $99.50 of halves. Of course there would never be anything worth keeping but it was fun to go through anyway. I was in a week-long class for work once and the pop machines there would take $1, $5, $10 and $20 bills for pop at $1.25 a can. I would pay with a $20 and get back dollar coins and quarters, and about a fourth of the dollars would be SBA's. I did find a few keepers, including some NIFC dollars and Bicentennial quarters (which I like to keep). There are other examples of this I have done over the years, I don't feel bad about it and dealing with a machine instead of a person eliminates the awkwardness of the transaction. |
