I'm wondering which variety this example is or if its one of the contemporary counterfeit examples?

Looks like NS-4A2 wide rim, a contemporary counterfeit. Worth about $10 CAD.

Don't dump that one yet. There are several small differences that occur on this type. From the token book by Ingram and Marelic, there are 4 possibilities.

For PNS-453, there can be engrailed, reeded, or a plain edge. Engrailed and reeded are rarity 2, the plain edge is R-10.

The 4th possibility is a newer find, PNS-454, listed as having had the rims reworked. This one has wide rims on both sides. Edge will be engrailed, and the width is 35mm., whereas the PNS-453 is 33.4 to 34.4mm. Rarity-9.

Here are photos of the 2. Second one does look like yours overall, but yours has a bump on top of the T of SCOTIA, which doesn't appear in the photo of 454, so positive ID not yet possible.
