If you look at the edge is it all silver or is it multi layer? I assume it is a Roosevelt dime. Probably only worth anything if it is silver.

An edge view would show if it is silver or clad. If you see red on the edge, it is a spender. If you see all silver, then it is worth melt value. Not an error. Just a coin alteration.

The color will be different. Although these are not dimes, the affect will be the same:

On a current die, look at the edge? See the red color? That is called a clad coin. Pre 1965 dimes were not clad, but where silver and the color of the edge will be silver. If it is showing red, then you can spend it. Silver save it for silver melt.

Would it be worth it to take it somewhere to get looked at? or is it definitely just worn or acid washed?
