Hi my quarter 1988 D has a early print on it the "M" is really shodows or was on there during the print what does that mean..if you look real careful at the "M" you will see the one next to it..

Note how the 'M" looks wider? That is because some grease was in the upper tapered part of that device.

When the device is fully blocked, nothing appears. But your coin was struck with a partial blockage of grease on the one letter.
