Cherrypicked A 1951 D/S OMM-002... On Accident!

CoinCollector2000 Pillar of the Community United States 2563 Posts	Posted 06/11/2019 3:57 pm So, I was browsing around ebay and saw this coin and saw that there was something going on with the mintmark. I was thinking that it was 1951 D RPM-004 on VarietyVista, but I was not sure. I knew it was some sort of mintmark punching error and was almost certain in my mind that it was a repunched mintmark. Boy, was I wrong! It actually ended up being the 1951 D/S OMM-002 (which is listed as a RPM on Wexler)! I was soooooo excited to see that and it is technically my first over mintmark, even if highly contested. It's a slight shame that there are fingerprints on the coin, but it is like it is. I took the photos off of my instagram (@thereal_andrewjackson) so that's why the arrows are there. The last photo is the seller's photo that I picked it off of. Report this Post to the Staff

Petespockets55 Pillar of the Community United States 5779 Posts	Posted 06/11/2019 9:38 pm Didn't anyone do an overlay to prove this one way or the other? I'm leaning towards an OMM for a couple of reasons. First, the bottom serif on the secondary MM doesn't have the elongated and pointed tip for such a strong strike. Second, it seems like the east end of the secondary should extend eastward past the primary MM before turning up if it was a second D. Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
