joecoin: Agreed, I'm sure I've seen whizzed coins that I did not know were whizzed.

I believe whizzing entails the use of a rotary power tool?

Perhaps this coin was cleaned with a non-powered wire brush of some sort. All that acne on it, especially on the obverse. Really looks like abrasive friction.

Or are there chemicals that would do that to the surface?

Rotary power tool.

It is not necessarily difficult to detect this type of alteration, but you have to know where to look. Often, the most obvious evidences are found on the legend.

You can even do the exercise with worthless coins for which you would have practiced this type of alteration. It is often a great way to learn.

But for this coin this is not the case. In my opinion, this is really a polishing process or something very similar.
I'm sorry if my English isn't perfect... I'm learning a little more every day.

Thanks all for your input, very helpful.

Whizzing is difficult to detect with the naked eye. This is definitely harshly cleaned but I have seen these get high grades even when cleaned. I will send it off just to see what they say
