I was going through my MS franklin DANSCO set looking for errors and varieties and I noticed that I have the 58 and 59 type 2 reverse. i was doing some research on NGC and saw that there were not many of these. once source said that %5 of 1958 was type 2 and could be very rare. so I guess my question here is not are they type 2, I know they are, but what would the realized value be based on their grade. the 1959 was broken out of an ANACS slab and was graded MS64, but did not have the type 2 attributed. they are really close to FBL but I cant find any population reports or value reports for these. please help. the pictures don't do them justice as I cannot get good lighting. thanks

My experience is that a lot of coin dealers at coin shows and sellers on ebay are not differentiating the 1958 and 1959 type 1 and type 2 varieties. I've picked some extra up of the type 2 if I can get a good deal because they are less common, especially the 1958. For now, it doesn't seem like they command a higher premium like the 1956 proofs do. Yes, if someone is selling it as a type 2 they will try to ask for more money. But I see plenty of type 2 coins not listed as type 2 for the same price as type 1. Don't really understand why this variety isn't getting any respect. Maybe it is because although they are less common, they are not that rare.

Mose sellers at a coin show are most often interested in the coins condition, rather than varieties. So buy from them regular coins. Cash in on what they don't care about. They are just selling coins.
