At a flea market today, Sunday, I always look for coin dealers. At one table where a guy had a lot of coins there was another person standing there saying "OK so you will give me $1,000 for 200 of those Dimes, right?" The dealer said no problem and I'll pick them up. I interupted and asked what kind of Dimes were being discussed. They were nice and didn't say get lost but the seller said all of those old Mercury dimes that I've had since I was a kid. But I already promissed them to this guy. Sorry. Win some and loose some.

I wish I had a good flea market around here. I went to one today and the only coin place was crap. He had a tin full of buffalos with worn dates. I asked how much, he said 2.00 a coin. I laughed and walked off. Good luck next weekend carl!

Many years ago, the huge flea market near me had several coin dealers, but now they are gone now. The place has been become sort of a real life infomercial and cheap knock-off outlet, so I do not go anymore.

That was similar everywhere around here due to thefts. If you think about it a person could grab a pile of coins from a table, run off and the seller could do very little except yell crook or something. However, no other seller would do anything since they too would not leave their stands or tables. Most workers at a flea market are kids and they will not get involved. However, for some reason lately many have returned. I counted at least 10 people selling coins at the flea market Sunday. Of course with over 1,000 sellers I may have missed some. Cheaper if you buy more than one. As low as $0.90 if you buy a lot. What is nice is he has very little knowledge of value by dates. All are the same price regardless of dates or mints or condition. Some of the ones from him were shocking. Best so far was a 42D/41 and for about 0.90

I picked up 4 Mercs on Sat at local coin/gun auction. Later years, but 1 AU+, 3 XF's, and all for $2 a pop.

Sounds like the dealer is messing with himself. Anyone who wants to pay $5 a pop for Merc dimes, I'll be happy to sell him a few hundred dollars face, then I'll start looking for more.

Check out those so called common, later year ones. There are more and more small and large mint marks being found besides the famous 45 Micro S. And keep in mind I found a 42D/41 at a flea market. Those are really hard to tell what they are.

There are no "flea markets" in this part of my state, that I'm aware of sadly. There are a couple of "pawn shops" that have "flea market" on their sign.....but.....yeah that's not a flea market !!.... At our one "Farmers Market" sometimes there are all kinds of different vedors selling various things (other than food).....but so far....never seen any coins there. Glass figurines....bumper stickers....bird houses.....homemade signs....knives....etc. etc. etc........but no coins....

There is another huge flea market in Georgia. It is all indoors like a shopping center. I might have to do some research on that one.

One thing I keep on harping about that most people just won't do is to ASK. Even at flea markets there could be some old coins under a table, counter, in a bag, jar, etc. Many people just don't like to put them out in public due to theft. I've found some take them there and then sort of chicken out putting them out on display. At one flea market I go to there is a guy that I've seen for years going up and down the aisles and at every dealer he says "And old watches, cameas, pens?" Someone I know said he is famous at most flea markets for that and most people know he owns several pawn shops and antique stores. It pays to ASK. No matter what the sellers are selling, still ASK.

I found two 42/41-D Mercs in a pile of about 1000 that a non-collector friend wanted to sell and I asked him to let me go through them first. He was pretty thrilled and gave one to each of his two grandchildren. Doubt that I'll ever match that for excitement. I think I stared at the first one I found for about 15 minutes trying to convince myself it was really an overdate.
