Tough to tell by the pics, but my Cherry Pickers Guide lists it as Snow-14. If I am seeing the Die Deterioration between "ED S " and the rim. Snow-15 is similar without the deterioration. I think KurtS has the snow attributions handy, maybe he will show up and confirm or deny this. Real nice looking coin but that rim ding might get it a body bag at a TPG. I guess since it is in the grading forum I should offer a grade Just a little flatness to the highest parts of the design , could be a weak strike- but I am guessing wear- too many hits and small scratches for this not to be a circulated coin, but just a little. I will go with AU-55

I'd say AU50 rim damage. PCGS or NGC would probably body bag it because of the rim ding. Nice coin though!

I think I'm a little rusty on all the FE varieties, but I think I'm seeing some Die Deterioration too. Can you point out where you're seeing doubling? Usually the doubling on FE turns up around the eagle's eye and beak, the talons or at UNITED.

Get a pic of the Eagle's beak and eye, the U next to it, and TAT from states. Also the end of the tail. The Pick Up Point in CPG is the Eagle's eye- check that for doubling too. Those are the pics I have in my CPG. I can see the doubling in your pics very well, just not the areas I have for reference. I will check out the Snow book when I get to the shop tomorrow and see what I can find out if no one else can pin it down.

Great pics! I see what you're talking about. I haven't seen this described as a variety, but then again I don't have an attribution guide and only know a few. I'm seeing some things that look like Die Deterioration, but I'm also seeing some notching on the base of the serifs of TE in UNITED. Maybe one of the coin experts will drop by and give us a better idea?

Well I called Rick Snow today and ordered a copy of volume 1 of his attribution guide which covers flying eagles. I am starting to get interested in this series and its varieties.

Sorry it took an extra day , I forgot yesterday Looks to me like Snow-14 described : Class I Rotated Hub Doubling CCW (counter-clock wise ) Mostly UNI and STAT . Die failure at first S in STATES. Scarce The Cherry Pickers Guide describes the other areas of die failure over the ED. The Snow book at the shop is pretty old but unless a new one has been listed- I think I will go with S-14.

Thanks guys! Where did you find that on Snows site? I looked around and could not find it. It also will not let me sign up for the forum.

I did google image search to find that. When Rick Snow sells and delists a coin, the image is often still up on his site. I don't think he'll mind it here, since it's essentially free marketing.
