I had been trying to pick an example of 1971S-FS-501, and I used the 2 parallel die gouges (see the Ike Group DIVa files) as my main PUP. I finally found one and snatched it up. When I got it I checked it with DIVa. It is without a doubt the die shown as FS-501/1SB-501.

I went to Variety Vista and Wexler to get the cross reference numbers to add to my spreadsheet and it does not match RPM-001 (CONECA's FS-501) or WRPM-003 (Wexler's FS-501).

The coin shown in the DIVa files actually matches RPM-002, WRPM-004, and Tom K's old IDDD-RPM-4. Be careful trying to pick this variety!

NGC has it right, they even have a Variety Plus number for RPM-002, but the top 3 in PCGS (67, 66+, 66) are all RPM-002. You can see the gouges easily in the awesome images.

The worst part is the 67 sold in 2016 for almost $9000. https://coins.ha.com/itm/a/1231-8871.s

I started a similar thread about this in the Ike Group forum. I hope I can get a conversation going this time. I did a lot of work trying to figure out the 1971S-FS-106 I picked a few months ago. I posted all that info over there and got no response. I'm 99% sure DIVa has DDO-027 listed as the FS-106. If it is, it is a wrong entry also. It may be because I'm new there, but I just can't seem to get my foot in the door. If you want to check that out GrumpyEd it is here: http://www.lincolncentforum.com/for...S-106-picked

The main thing is, if PCGS is using a wrong listing as a reference, they will get it wrong almost always. I'm not a professional coin attributor. You guys have watched me learn since day 1. I am fairly comfortable with attribution skills now though. I just want the reference material to be correct. Then a $9000 mistake is minimized greatly.

Here is mine. It is definitely RPM-002, not FS-501! In a minute. I have to optimize the images to fit the tiny file size.

Sorry, I copied most of this from another forum. Some may not make sense here. However, I can't get ANY response from Ike Group...again. I also posted this info over at Collectors Universe hoping PCGS may chime in...nope, not yet anyway.

I agree the pictures you posted look like WRPM-004 and not WRPM-003.

DIVa 1SB-501 cross ref to FS-501 BUT looks like Wexler WRPM-004.
Wexler's WRPM-003 cross ref to FS-501.
CONECA's RPM-001 cross ref to the FS-501.

This might be a case of oops I named it wrong or was there a designation change?!?! I think you got it right. It is source reference material not jiving between different entities.

As for the HA auction, recently someone posted... BUY THE COIN NOT THE SLAB (could not find the post). Why? TPG make ERRORS too.

I hope I am not to far off on the discussion. Nick the new guy here

EDIT: Here are CherryPickers' Guide Fifth Edition Volume II pictures (note the comments info):

Thank you so much madness! That confirms my suspicions. That is without a doubt RPM-001/WRPM-003. I just wonder if PCGS is using the DIVa images only for attribution. If so, the DIVa listing needs to change. I just can't get a conversation started at the Ike Group. Thanks again for the CPG image!
