Quote: Thanks again. Coinfrog, are you saying that ANACS has an option to just authenticate a coin without it saying details? PCGS does if you just pick the genuine service. Honestly a details grade is better than just having genuine most people know what that is. If you went to sell you'd be glad you spent the extra few bucks for PCGS or NGC especially if you're sending your 55 DD in with it definitely send to PCGS or the very least NGC. Anything you save using ANACS you would almost certainly lose far more on the back end

It depends what you want to do with it. If you plan to keep it then your lowest TPG option is ANACS. If you plan to sell it, then I would send it to PCGS, there isn't that much of a price difference. If you want to sell immediately, then greatcollections will send to TPG for you, and get it auctioned right away.

Thanks everyone. I'm inclined to send it to NGC because I'm on the East Coast. I'm not sure if I should spend $25 to become a member of NGC, and send the coins in myself, or if I should entrust them to an authorized dealer to send out.

Oh, and I plan to keep it until such a time that I could afford a better one, which will probably be at least a year away.

I am not an ANA member. And I just figured mail goes quicker and somewhat safer along the same coast as opposed to coast to coast.

Coast to coast goes on planes, same coast goes on trucks. PCGS you'll have it back in two day priority shipping, NGC you're looking at about a week or more with registered. I can send things to Australia faster than Registered mail travels the East Coast

Lol nice. But don't I want registered mail rather than 2 day priority for safety?

Quote: But don't I want registered mail rather than 2 day priority for safety? Not really. Speed through the system is a security on it's own. If it was dangerous they wouldn't use it and nothing is more frustrating than watching your registered package sit in a sketchy city for days because they can't be bothered.

Last post. This is a genuine but details coin that, figuring the cost, will sell best in an ANACS holder, whatever the final grade.

Well, if OP plans to sell in a year or so, NGC or PCGS is fine, but not ANACS. So maybe the coin will gain some patina sitting in a sketchy city for a while!

Quote: will sell best in an ANACS holder, whatever the final grade. It's a couple hundred dollar coin if legit and ANACS does not maximize value on those or higher compared to grading cost. He also as he mentioned has a 55 DD to send in which would be mistake sending there. Lower tier TPGs are best for generic things with little to no price spreads
