What are the rules that identify...define if a Mercury has full bands...full split bands.... I've heard several explanations but am still not clear on it. Is there one solid rule to identify if they are fs or fsb? Thank you all for your help and information.

Middle band, need to show separation the whole way across.

Basebal21 is right. However, the problem lies when a coin goes to a grading service. There are 45P's in FSB holders that would never be so certified if they were a 43D; or other year with good striking and die separation. IN all cases you need a line in the middle to be unbroken all the way across..but some of the 45's can only be seen under magnification. I'm not sure if there are any other years that get a bit of leniency.

I also think you need all three unbroken.

That's what I ty thought but I've been told by some that all 3 aren't needed to be considered full band. Think that's why I'm a little confused.

The middle as well as top and bottom bands need to be fully separated and rounded, like two loaves of bread.

PCGS and NGC only require the middle set of bands to be separated to qualify for full bands. The top and bottom bands are more likely to be separated anyway.

All three unbroken. Hence the word "bands", not band.

Exactly. If the middle is struck up the rest of it will be too
