This coin is pretty beat up, but it has no rim at all. Is that post mint damage?

It got dipped in acid by someone. Acid will reduce and thin the size of the coin. The weight will also be off as well. The acid basically eats away at the coin.

Why would acid eat the edge away completely but leave the faces? Are the face and the edge made of different materials? Not that I'm saying it wasn't dipped in acid, but I'm having trouble seeing how acid could eat that much of the coin away and leave the reeding where the edge meets the rim.

It was acid dipped. The acid eats away the copper much faster than the nickel.

Found a Delaware quarter at the coinstar like this the other day, I kept it to spend it somewhere, but Yeah, it's an acid strong enough to eat the copper up but not eat the nickel.

But different types of acids eat away different metals.
