The date is MD and the W looks like circulation flattening.

There was an issue with master die doubling on the 1909-1955 cents on the 'W':
1920-P-LWC-DDO/Md-What-Do-Ya-Think?
But as mentioned, it looks like it took a hit on the central part of the 'W' and the MD issue on the sides of that device.
