Like many others here, I get emails from the Mint on a regular basis.
Today I received one touting a Hand Engraved print of the Declaration of Independence, and it's not cheap. Almost $200 a copy. My question is, does hand engraved mean the print will be an intaglio printing ?
Steve, that print is definitely intaglio. It's been around for some time (2003) and did receive a catalog number (B-267) from the Souvenir Card Collectors Society, although it bends the rules since I'm not sure what it's a souvenir of. Here's an image from the SCCS website: http://www.souvenircards.org/galler...cs/B-267.jpg
I think the Bureau's price point on that is way too high (it used to be $300, btw), but I know how much work these would be to print. A plate that large would almost certainly be done by hand on the BEP's "elephant press."
