I just got this off ebay on a chance it was a proof. The pictures given by the seller showed the scuffs and dings on the coin perfectly.

I have never had a half proof but took the chance anyway.

based on the weakly struck dentils, I do not believe this is a proof. the proofs did hsve the slanted 5s but this is just the business strike.

AU details cleaned.

Agree, not a proof. At best an oddly-colored AU-58 with many distracting marks, at worst a details coin that is re-toning after a cleaning.

Slightly iridescent colors are often seen on re-toning coins.

I personally find proof LCs tough to locate unless you special order them which drives up the price.

IMO

I'd give this Half Cent an EAC grade of NET40 cleaned and would probably go at least EF-AU details by a TPG, but it's not worth sending it in as it is obviously cleaned and has rim damage. Recolored through exposure to a sulphur based material or gun bluing solution to get that oily sheen look with rainbow colors, not very natural to me.
