Almost certainly discoloration from environmental exposure. What is the weight?

Strange, But it reminds me of a counterfeit quarter I once found, mine was made of iron. Nickel and Copper don't usually develop brown "rust", but steel definitely does, check with a magnet.

If it doesn't attract to a magnet maybe was laying in rusty water and dried that way .

Yes, that's Environmental Damage. On the reverse, I can see the normal color on the eagle and on the left wing. PSD.

There is reading Rabbithole1 and thanks for the input guys. Just being so smooth and not feeling like it was subdued to rusty water like other coins I have found made it kind of strange.

I have added it this time, but you should include the date, mintmark, and the denomination in your titles. Why Topic Titles are ImportantThe title of your topic is very important. Let's say you need help attributing an 1896 Morgan Dollar.... - Horrendous: Help!
- Bad: Need help with coin
- Better: Need help with Morgan Dollar
- Good: Need help with 1896 Morgan Dollar
- Awesome: Need help with V
AM on 1896 Morgan Dollar
This enables the members with expertise pertaining to your question to easily find and answer your question. The title of the topic also becomes the title of the topic's web page, which enables us to attract more collectors to the site. The more members we have, the more we learn.
