Hi, I was checking some quarters, When I stumbled upon this coin with an unusual mint-mark, It likes like it might be a repunched mintmark, But I'm an extreme novice at understanding error and variety coins, So I'm turning to the experts.

Does anyone know if this is an error/variety, And if it's worth saving? I took two photos of the front, under different lighting (I have a lousy camera), And I also posted the reverse of the coin in case there was something I missed.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey Joe, Looks like a couple hits to me. That coin looks like it spent some time in a Las Vegas slot machine. I know that the Mint Marks these days are on the Master Hubs so there is no real possibility that they can be re-punched since they are no longer punched into the Working Die. I cannot remember the year they stopped punching them right now...but I am sure someone can come up with that, and correct any mistakes in terminology, but it goes something like that

No, Just damage.

I see no evidence of Die Deterioration.

Thanks,
Bill

Just remember that 1990 and thereafter repunched mintmarks are not possible. The die making process was changed to eliminate hand punching of mintmarks that year.
