Wait, you say this is 3.11g but you haven't weighed it? How would you expect an intelligent reply without the actual weight?

Will have to be patient on this one folks. karlastrd. You will need to provide us the actual weight on the cent you own pictured here! A electronic scale that provide 1.00 grams is preferred.

I believe both are common zinc cents. I also believe he misread something somewhere, I think he confused the 1983 D with the 1982 D small date copper cent.

I thought so a well, but somehow his attribution seems to be based on pictures.

karlastrd: Quote: if ive done my research right I believe this is a 1983 d transitional penny containing 3.11 grams of zinc/copper combo. There are no transitional cents...if a 1983 weighs 3.11g then it would be an error coin struck on a copper planchet rather than a copper/zinc planchet. Please weigh your coin for if it is 3.11g, you hit the lottery (small prize only). You cannot, as was previously stated just use pictures. KK

If you haven't got scales with capability accurate to 1/100 of a gram, then go to one of these: 1. a local pharmacy 2. a local high school science lab, a school student may be able to help you, 3. a scrap gold jewelry buyer,
one of these may be able to help you out.

Yes, please weigh your coin and take pictures of it, on the scale. Otherwise, saying you have it is just pure speculation without solid concrete proof.

You cannot tell the metal content of these coins by LOOKING at it. You have to weigh them.
