I have a 1939 Wheat penny that weighs 2.43g and I can't figure out why. I have checked and rechecked and weighed about another $10 in penny's on the same scale and the scale is working perfectly. I'm hoping someone might know what the cause is for the weight difference?
More like it was totally dark in color and some used a drill with a wire brush to the coin on both sides. It is still a Wheat cent, but if it were a variety is would not be worth anything other than a Wheat cent.
