For picked over, common dates they are worth somewhere in the neighborhood of 3x-5x face value. Since this coin is only one year away from the 1943 zinc pennies is it possibly also zinc? Please weigh it and check it with a magnet ... you may be rich! AND: Please let us know. fortcollins Pillar of the Community United States 3655 Posts	Posted 07/13/2019 10:46 am Because of wartime copper demands, the 1944, 1945, and most 1946 cents were struck on stock made from recycled spent shell cases. This resulted in a slight composition change. Pre-1943 and post-1946 cents were 95% Cu and 5% Sn-Zn. The 1944-46 shell case cents were 95% Cu 5% Zn (no Tin). This sometimes results in different toning for the shell case dates. It is common, the coins are common, and there is no premium value for the dates. Report this Post to the Staff
