Hello good people, So I got a roll of pennies and many of them have toning like this one. What causes this and does it bring value to the coin? This is a very strong strike by the way...notice the cheek bones.

Copper is very prone to changing color under different environmental conditions, particularly in home experiments!

Thank you all nick10...yes I'm using a scope :) T-BOP...what do you mean about AT?
So...what grade would you give this without the toning, 65, 66, 67? Doe the toning bring the value down of such an extreme strike.

AT = Artificial Toning . Most likely by some kind of heat .

Without the toning, and without the pattern on the obverse that could be a fingerprint, I'd say 67. That's one sweet coin for the date, I see no major dings, if not for the rim hits (and toning) maybe it would go 68.
Which scope? Gotta get me one since those pics are great.

Thanks! Does anyone think this is worthy of getting graded?
