My 8yr old daughter has been asking about coins (she wants a coin book for her birthday!) & I would like to get her a few inexpensive Roman coins that don't look worn to the point of being washers. Can you give me some specific coin suggestions on what Good Looking Roman coins to get for a Kid?

And a source to get them from?

Thanks, Bill.

Late bronze Roman coins of the 4th Century AD (300s) are very inexpensive (some can be found for $5 on ebay).

Look for emperors like Constantius II, Constantine I, or Valens. Because these coins are so common, they are cheap, yet marvelous to look at!

By the way, be very careful when buying if you don't know much about Roman coins. It is very easy to get taken with fakes and lures of "gold found" if you don't know what you are doing. You can always post an ebay auction link here if you are not sure!

What would be a great gift...
Buy a bulk of genuine uncleaned ancient coins... and a cleaner kit...
And work with her to get them cleaned up...then try identifying them.
Will develop a stronger relationship.
