The flat shelf-like appearance of the doubling plus the reduced thickness of the "members" making up the letters/numbers makes me think this is MD. For example of thinning, look how thin the top curve of the C ad the O are in the last picture.

Pictures aren't the best, but this looks like it could be a doubled die to me. I found a similar one on a 1951 5 Rappen before.
