Should this coin get sent to NGC or PCGS for grading? What do you guys think it would grade?

Looks like an ex fine, but is there a ding over the first A in America on the reverse. If so I wouldn't send in.
I am also in NJ.

Good eye! I am new to the pics, so I apologize for the low res pic on the first post. Here is a better shot of the reverse. I had to crop it to get under the 90KB limit.

So you think that damage would preclude sending to a grading service?

Sigh, I do think it would get "body-bagged", despite that scratch looking like severe but normal wear that possibly happened long ago. A 175 year old coin shouldn't have scratches, ya know?

Thanks guys. It is a shame because it has a lot of luster and beautiful eye appeal. Unfortunately, everyone seems to agree that the scratch will be the showstopper.

Sometimes its better to leave a coin out of a capsule, to hold and enjoy
save the TPG for high mint state and rare dates IMHO...
enjoy your piece of history!

As far as a grade AU details with cleaning and damage... PCGS and NGC
will bodybag, but ANACS would probably encapsulate with net grading.

Best of luck!

I find it ironic that I seldom spend time studying my slabbed coins--simply because the details are obscured by those bulky plastic "coin coffins".
