Only place it looks like lettering is above E Pluribus. But I don't think it is. I totally get you seeing what you think you're seeing from it though. Overall it looks like a lot of rim ding's to me.

I agree that those are edge bumps rather than remnants of dropped letters.

I have to disagree this time and maybe its because my microscope does not go any closer. I clearly see the letters and even on the sides that tie into the E. PLURIBUS UNUM when I hold it into the microscope. I must order a microscope that takes closer pictures. Can one of you recommend a very good microscope that can take individual letters close up? Thanks Mike

V@mw, I use a cheap celeston and it seems to take resasoble close-ups. My thinking saying that this cent rim is damaged is because I can see the little surrounding indents where the metal came from to create these bumps

Hello Mikeyworms,
Those are great pictures. I don't think you need an upgrade on your microscope.

Your pictures are perfect. Those are just rim dings, you can see how the "letters" are just displaced metal surrounding the ding. You couldnt make out any words if you wanted to because there are none.

To me it looks like intentional damage to the coin. If this were a parking lot coin, you would see more damage on the faces of the coin. But this looks confined to the edge/rim areas.

As already mentioned earlier, it's just a damaged coin.
