Every once in a while I like stopping the bidding, searching, packaging and storing just to enjoy the items I got. I guess this is what collecting is all about.

This morning I had one of those moments and as I was looking I came across this Nazi, silver, Five Mark coin. It's probably one of the most collected of the Nazi series. It's Big and silver.

I always wondered why Hitler never put his image on the coin. He had his image on hundreds of stamps but none on a regular issue coin. At least none that I'm aware of. I think this is a well designed coin for it's purpose but felt the elements were struck too lightly.

I like the coin. I also am surprised that Hitler never put his image on a coin, especially since he was so egomaniacal. Here is a link on the history of the swatstika (which actually has very peaceful origins).

I guess that Hitler didn't want his picture on coins before his great victory over bolshevism... The coins which depict Hitler are fakes made by neo-nazis, they aren't real pattern coins.
