Looks like environmental toning, perhaps spent time under ground. If right about toning, it should weigh 5.7 grams.

Hi Fuzzy, thanks.. Sounds right. You can see the silver where the ugly stuff seems to have flaked off on the edges. Guess that shouldn't be silver color if missing clad?
On to the next one! :)

What does it weigh? 5.7 grams is normal, yours may be slightly more than that.

I found a graded quarter missing the clad layer on the reverse showing 4.75 grams. If it was missing both clad layers, it should be under 4 grams.

I don't think you can only go by the weight. An environmental damaged coin can lose weight also. It does not have the right look for a missing clad layer regardless of weight,IMHO.

True, but IMHO it is a great first step.

I've dug plenty of coin, definitely a ground coin. not necessarily an in-the-ground coin, but on the surface for a while. got some of my own loose change on the driveway looking similar. Still, you spotted it, one day it will be a good one, keep searching.

You can always carry it around in your pocket for a few months and see how it turns out as the color wears off the highest points and it stays dark in the lows.

Evironmental cameo lol.
