Does any see the future of coin shows going away due to the Internet and high cost of gas?
Has anyone else notice a drop in attendance of the general public?

I doubt it. The internet will not replace looking at a coin in hand. I know several experts that refuse to buy from images alone.

The future of collecting will be in trusted collector-collector and collector-dealer transactions--IMO.  |

If someone can make a "virtual coin", so you can see up close but also spin the coin on it's axis. That way, you can "tilt" the coin to check for luster. That would be a big jump from photos.

In the future ( I hope ) all coin shows will include an all-you-can-eat Thai buffet. |

If you lived in Illinois you wouldn't ask that. I feel there are little to many here and growing all the time. There was just a new one in a town called Tinley Park for the 5th, 6th and 7th of September. Also, for personal, private, rich people on the 4th I heard. Naturally there is the constant 3 shows every month about 12 to 15 miles from me. Then there is the real stupid 6 month or 1 year show at the Rosemont Convention Center. Not sure if 6 months or 1 year. Of course these are all USA coins so there are also a few foreign coin shows around too. This doesn't even touch the coin dealers at flea markets and coin shops. This excessive amount of coin shows has advantages and disadvantages. For one thing you get to know most of the dealers well and can get really decent deals. You can actually order certain coins and possibly have them at the next show or their store if they have one. The really bad thing about all these shows is if your addicted to coins, you MUST go to them all. Then you MUST buy something or you shouldn't be going. Then if your not rich, when you get home you constantly say "WHY, WHY, WHY?" As to the possibility of coin shows going away. I sure wish a few would. If they continue to have more and the present ones continue to grow, I'll have to sell my house for money. |

I do not see coin shows going away. At the Ark-La-Tex coin show in July, tables sold out completely to dealers, and the attendance was the best it has ever been.

Sounds like some strange places I've only heard on in the news. Hopefully not but there may not be to many coin shows in some of those places this weekend. Coin Shows? I just looked and there are 9 advertised coin shows here in Illinois this Month. Several are really close so kind of confused as to which ones to go to. That Mid America Coin Expo at the Rosemont is usually way, way overpriced so I'll leave that one out. Decisions, decisions, decisions. |

I bet we'll see more wireless access to online resources at smaller coin shows, at least it's what I'd like to see happen.
It would be great to be able to see actual coins and hold them in your hand and at the same show go online for live pricing etc.

I am so tired of returning coins not represented correctly. I was just telling my wife that if I ever buy a coin that I don't have my hands on when I decide to buy, she should shoot me. Bad news is, she will. Good news is, I'll know what I'm buying :)
Go to shows. They are the best.
