It's whenever someone alters a coin , usually intentional, to get other people to think its valuable. I had three in my dad's collection. There are also ones called hobo coins and stamped coins. Hobo coins are carved coins, but they are not intended to be fakes, but a kind of art. stamp punched coins are similar to souvenir coins.
