Just damage to the coin. Someone has too much time on their hands and the desire to alter a coin. Spendable.

the term is vise job I believe. It's whenever someone alters a coin , usually intentional, to get other people to think its valuable. I had three in my dad's collection.
There are also ones called hobo coins and stamped coins. Hobo coins are carved coins, but they are not intended to be fakes, but a kind of art. stamp punched coins are similar to souvenir coins. You can find these by googling them to see examples.

Did this sort of thing myself as a kid. Somehow seemed like a good idea at the time.
