Hello everyone and thank you for taking time to read my post and check out my photos. I actually found two 1935 pennies side by side when emptying an old piggy bank that I still haven't fully searched through. These are the two that caught my eye and I began inspecting them with a friend. We started measuring different areas because we noticed a difference between the two. I'm uploading pictures of the one I think has a defect or defect(s). Obviously the Liberty seems to be normal wear but Lincoln's head throws me off. I don't know if it's a defect or something that happened in the years of being in and out circulation but that's why I'm here. Thank you all in advance and I look forward to hearing from you. Below, the photos...

to CCF. First thought is a Grease Filled Die,but it looks not quite right for that. Could use a little better photos,a bit more light. John1

Probably a grease issue, agree, but a close-up of the LIBERTY area would be helpful. to the CCF!

Note the affected area on the back of the head is pushed. PSD because you can see where the metal was. It reminds me of MD on that area, but the date looks normal. (MD would have also affected the date as well in the same direction. Note the reverse opposite that area looks a different color? I can't of another idea for this to happen on a normal strike coin, other than altered damage.

The enlargement certainly suggests old damage.

So, we've come to the conclusion that it was not an error at the mint but someone or something damaged the coin after the fact?

MD=Machine damaged. This creates flat, shelf like alterations to a coin coming up from the strike. Very common to find. Not a doubled die, as it is caused by the machine, whether a normal die or on a doubled die. If this occurs on a doubled die, then you have a doubled die with machine damage on it. Note yellow arrows on these images.

What ever the going rate for wheat cents are? Used to be 3 cents each, but that was years ago.

That's a bummer but now I'm on the hunt for more possible error coins!

Last general Wheat cent values were 3 cents for 40s&50's — 5 cents for 30's — and 10cents for 10's&20's. 10cents for circ steel cents... that's what I've heard.
