Hello, I'm asking this for a friend of mine who's father recently passed away. My friend is also a collector of coins. However, he was amazed to find out how extensive his father's collection really was.
He said he has a 1941 LWC that says " tin, folded planchet" Has anyone heard of this?

Thanks! I'll have him send me pics. He took this collection to a local coin shop in his area and I don't think the appraisal he was given would be accurate. They offered him $26,000 ( not exactly chump change ) But, I told him not to trust this offer until he knows what he has and hopefully some experts on here would be willing to talk to him about these coins.

It appears to be a split planchet that split after the strike. As far as the fold, because it is so thin it may have been folded and then unfolded leaving the fold ridge down the middle. I do not believe the fold happened during the minting process and believe that happened after it left the mint.

It's a really neat-looking coin, but I have to go with acid + damage on it.

Definitely not an error coin. Just an acid dipped coin. Post Strike Damage ( PSD). Maybe even shows heat damage as well?
